Hospitals aren’t exactly known for being relaxing places. The bright lights and loud noises create stress, even if you’re there for a low-risk reason. So even if you’ve pictured a peaceful birth with soft music, dimmed lights, and aromatherapy, you’re still probably going to get the added ambiance of constant nurse checks, loud beeping, and people just down the hallway who have never heard of an inside voice. This is why I love the idea of birth centers. In these unique spaces, you have a designated home away from home to have your baby in the environment you’ve always imagined. If you’ve been looking for a relaxing place for your birth, I’d love to tell you about The Birth House, an Olympia birth center, and why I think it just might be right for you!

About The Birth House, an Olympia Birth Center

The Birth House resides in a 1909 craftsman-style house. This Olympia Birth Center shares this space with Around the Circle Midwifery and operates with two of the practice’s midwives. Megan Felling is a Licensed Midwife/Certified Professional Midwife, while Tiffany Heiges is a Certified Nurse Midwife/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.

Both women are passionate about providing a comfortable space where you can have the labor experience that works for you. The Birth House has two birthing suites, tubs, and family-centered care. They’re the only facility in Thurston County that provides water births. The center is only two miles from the hospital in case you need to be transferred. You can check out the center at 2120 Pacific Ave SE in Olympia.

Services

At The Birth House, you’ll receive all your prenatal visits at the center. From the beginning, you’ll schedule regular appointments to chat with your midwife and ensure your pregnancy progresses as expected. As you get closer to your due date, your midwife will devise a birth plan with you. They’ll provide all the information you need to ensure you’re making the best decisions for yourself. Also, whether an Olympia Birth Center is right for you!

Once labor begins, you’ll head to the center, placed in one of the two comfortable rooms. You’ll be able to snack and move around, and your midwife will ensure your birth plan is enacted as much as possible. Skin-to-skin will be prioritized once your baby is born, while your midwife ensures you’re clear. You’ll get to go home a few short hours after delivery so you can recover from the convenience of your home.

Specialty

The Birth House has received Gold Level recognition for its prioritization of breastfeeding. They know a mother’s milk is a wonderful start for a newborn and want to help you with this journey. They’ll advise and ensure you feel comfortable with nursing before leaving the center.
