Today, the organization has more than 20,000 providers across a wide scope of different specialties. Their OB-GYNs commit to ensuring you have unparalleled support throughout your pregnancy. The birthing center was renovated in 2014 to create a welcoming environment full of amenities. You can tour it at 315 MLK Jr Way.
Services
The Birthing Center has worked to create a peaceful and warm environment for your delivery. The birthing suites are all private and feature a large window, tons of space for your support person and visitors, large sleeper sofas, phone chargers, and a family waiting area with internet access. You’ll also have an en suite bathroom with large showers and jetted tubs for hydrotherapy.
Once your baby is born, you’ll be moved to a private postpartum suite. The hospital prioritizes bonding with your baby. Unless there’s a medical emergency, your little one will remain by your side throughout the entire stay. You’ll receive lactation support for the best start to your breastfeeding journey. The hospital also has lactation supplies, including nursing bras and rental breast pumps.
Specialty
The Birthing Center is well-equipped to handle high-risk pregnancies. The practice offers several specialists who have spent years training and building experience to help you throughout pregnancy. You’ll receive collaborative care from your specialist and OB to ensure you consistently have high-quality assistance. Tacoma General Hospital has all the tools necessary to give you and your baby the best possible outcome. The site has a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with over 70 beds. They can also transport your baby via helicopter if needed.
The hospital provides birthing center tours and childbirth education classes to ensure you feel fully ready for labor. You’ll get a firsthand look at the center and ask questions to fully prepare the second your contractions start.
