There are few experiences quite like pregnancy. Your body is rapidly changing from week to week, and it feels like you’re learning about a brand new symptom that the parenting books forgot to mention every day. This is why midwives are so helpful. Unlike OB-GYNs, midwives can limit how many clients they’re assisting at any given time, meaning they can devote more time to answering whether or not it’s normal for the swelling to reach your nose (spoiler alert: it is). Plus, they will ensure all your concerns are handled so you can have a much more relaxed pregnancy. If you’ve considered using a midwife for your labor, I’d love to tell you about Rachael Cook at New Day Midwifery!
About New Day Midwifery
New Day Midwifery is a unique office owned and operated by Rachael Cook. Rachael believes childbirth is a profound yet normal experience your body was built to handle! She started working as a birth professional in 2011 after her second hospital birth left her feeling frustrated with the mainstream birth industry. She set out to help people rediscover their voices throughout labor.
Rachael is inclusive and welcomes parents of every race, religion, relationship status, BMI, or gender identification. Her primary goal is to create a safe space where you can meet your baby. She understands that no one knows their body better than themselves and lets them take control of their delivery. You can visit New Day Midwifery at 1026 State Ave NE in Olympia.
Services
Rachael specializes in out-of-hospital births. You’ll regularly meet with her throughout your pregnancy so she can ensure your pregnancy is progressing as expected. These visits last 30-60 minutes, so she can ensure you have all the answers you need. In the office, she’ll perform lab work, ultrasounds, genetic screening, and fetal monitoring.
As your due date nears, New Day Midwifery ensures your house is ready for a home birth (if you choose this route). She’ll be there throughout your labor and provide unrelenting support. You’ll have the choice of a water birth. Once your baby is born, she’ll stay for a few hours and ensure you’re both on the path to recovery.
You’ll have two home postpartum home visits in the week following delivery, and Rachael will serve as the primary pediatrician for your newborn for the first two weeks. You’ll receive two additional postpartum visits at two weeks and six weeks.
Specialty
While New Day Midwifery primarily assists in out-of-hospital births, Rachael does provide collaborative care for hospital births. With this plan, you’ll go to her for all your prenatal appointments and transfer into the hospital’s care once labor begins. For a fee, you can select to have Rachael there as a doula so you can remain under her guidance while still receiving care in your preferred setting.
