About The Chihuly Garden and Glass Wedding Venue
Chihuly Garden and Glass has been a long-term exhibition at the Seattle Center for over a decade. It features and wildly celebrates the astonishing blown glass artwork of internationally renowned artist Dale Chihuly, a revolutionary leader in the industry. Chihuly’s name has become synonymous with avant-garde glass as fine art, and his work is included in over 200 museum collections around the world. He has received twelve honorary doctorates and two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, a testament to his pioneering spirit and dedication to the world of the arts. Chihuly’s colorful and fantastical pieces are easily recognizable, and the Seattle exhibit is a true celebration of his signature style and achievements.
The Seattle Center itself is a fabulous place for a wedding, especially when you have guests visiting from out of town. Home to the famous Space Needle, the beautiful International Fountain, numerous art exhibits, and plenty of unique restaurants, it’s a great place to gather and experience some of Seattle’s best culture and entertainment!
Details of the Grounds
Chihuly Garden and Glass is a visually breathtaking place to host an event, particularly a wedding! With a dozen exhibits and magnificent gardens, it’s truly a feast for the eyes that needs very little additional decor to absolutely stun your guests.
The venue can accommodate events of up to 300 people for a ceremony and a seated dinner. The show-stopping Glasshouse is an incredible space made entirely of arching glass panes that look out over the gardens. A massive floral-inspired Chihuly installation sprawls overhead in shades of red, orange, amber, and yellow. At the front of the room, located just outside in the gardens, is another extraordinary Chihuly piece of golden, green, and red spirals and curlicues emanating a rich and vibrant sunburst. It’s a space that exudes dramatic elegance, especially surrounded by the surrounding garden greenery and peeks of other outdoor Chihuly exhibits.
Since the Glasshouse is such an incredible space, a lot of couples choose to use it for their ceremony and host an outdoor cocktail hour while an events team flips the space for the reception. As I mentioned earlier, you don’t need much decor to make the space even more gorgeous, but you may want to incorporate your signature wedding aesthetic to make it feel unique to you and your partner.
Photography Opportunities
The photos we can take at Chihuly Garden and Glass are truly spectacular, especially in the gardens. We can wander through meticulously landscaped areas bursting with greenery and flowers that are bursting with the bright colors of Chihuly installations that organically sprout from the ground. Indoors, we can also take advantage of their other Chihuly exhibits for beautiful and dramatic portraits featuring breathtaking glasswork. (Bonus: with Chihuly Garden and Glass being a part of the Seattle Center, for the cost of admission, we can also sneak up to the top of the Space Needle for a few pictures overlooking the city, too!)
